Little Brother is keeping up with you |
Little brother is watching you. Ever wondered why the apps on your phone or tablet are constantly updating? "We've improved performance, fixed bugs, resolved crashes....more " is a typical message. In this case it was from Meta about Facebook. TikTok seems to update a couple of times each week. There's a saying, "If you aren't paying for the product, you are the product." Have you ever considered how this applies to the news you read and in this case the constant updates? Remember "Flash"? You could hardly go a day on the Internet without being told you need to download the latest "Flash" version. And it was no secret that Adobe were using this just to measure how many people were actually using this at the time very annoying piece of software. Apart from it being very badly designed, meaning you needed expensive specialists to maintain your web sites, it also meant that due to this cost factor many sites remained static and were seldom updated. Thank goodness the later versions of HTML, the base language nowadays of any web display has meant that web designers no longer need to invest in proprietary, expensive solutions. So now you probably have guessed why your phone is tablet is constantly being updated and wasting megabytes of broadband for mainly no real reason. |
