Anti-immigrant or anti-immigration demos? |
Let's get the terminology correct before we delve into this subject. immigrant noun A person who has come to a different country in order to live there permanently immigration noun
The process by which people come in to a foreign country to live there, or the number of people coming in: It all concerns the weekend demos (3. and 4. of August 2024) called by groups who want to reduce immigration and in some cases counter-demonstrations by those who feel we in the UK should welcome anybody who sees fit to live here whether they intend to integrate, eventually become real Brits, or not or just enjoy the enormous benefits that can be gained.. The local news only ever states "anti-immigrant" whereas a whole host of people who were interviewed or gave their opinion to the paper specifically denied being racist or motivated by hatred in any way towards any particular individuals. However many have stated they want to see the number of immigrants to the UK substantially reduced. Some go as far as saying they believe it should be stopped altogether but this is probably impossible considering our reliance on imported skilled labour particularly in the heath sector. It seems that the local paper is very much biased against the "anti-immigration" lobby. The headings are very much what in the business we call "click-bait". They also tend, unfortunately like many leading politicians to make the serious mistake of branding anybody with the view that we need to reduce immigration as far right. Often even naming them "extremists". Our media need to go back to reporters school and study some history to see what far-right really is. Wikipedia states, easy to understand: The far right in the United Kingdom are Nazi, fascist and antisemitic movements. Of course one needs to understanf the true meaning of these terms as well. Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian, ultranationalist political ideology and movement characterised by a dictatorial leader, For example Mussolini. Nazism formally National Socialism (NS; German: Nationalsozialismus), is the far-right totalitarian socio-political ideology and practices associated with Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party (NSDAP) in Germany. During Hitler's rise to power in 1930s Europe, it was frequently referred to as Hitler Fascism (German: Hitlerfaschismus) and Hitlerism (German: Hitlerismus). The later related term "neo-Nazism" is applied to other far-right groups with similar ideas which formed after the Second World War when the Third Reich collapsed. Nazism is a form of fascism, with disdain for liberal democracy and the parliamentary system. It incorporates a dictatorship, fervent antisemitism, anti-communism, anti-Slavism, anti-Romani sentiment, scientific racism, white supremacy, Nordicism, social Darwinism and the use of eugenics into its creed. Antisemitism (also spelled anti-semitism or anti-Semitism) is hostility to, prejudice towards, or discrimination against, Jews. There seems to be little evidence that the current demonstrators are craving for any of these political systems. In fact those with an anti-islam tendency will argue that Islam itself is totallitarian, usually with a single leader who cannot be democratically removed. We plead for unbiased and correct reporting. No more, no less. -pw- London. |
