In defence of the iPad |
In defence of the iPad Apple's recent advert for their latest iPad seems not to have gone down well with many including the media. But don't they say: there is no bad advertising? It was even suggested by radio listeners on the BBC's lunchtime program (10 May 2024) that the controversy was created on purpose by Apple. We found the comments to an article in the press more revealing than the argument about the contents of the advert itself. The iPad it would seem is the preferred world wide web gateway for a vast range of users and in particular the older population. Using a phone is "too fiddly" is what many commentators stated and a lap-top is too complex and also unnecessary for just accessing the web. There is little you can't do on a tablet and on the iPad in particular. In fact the iPad and other tablets with their touch-screen technology removes the requirement for a mouse or any other pointer device which to many is a huge advantage. The iPad does offer the Apple pencil for both text input and drawing and even though it is brilliant it is not entirely necessary. It also looks as though the days of the MacBook may be coming to an end as there us no real advantage to using a laptop-top anymore. Up until now the main advantage was that you had USB ports to add external storage or other devices but the iPad and other tablets have added this some time ago. We would put our money on tablets over laptops any day of the week. -pw- London |
