| Portland 20. August 2023 For a few hours this seemed to be possible after a man set up a hoax listing on the well known web site. According to the description the Bibbi Stockholm had a garden and offered views of Dorset's Jurassic coast. Towels and bed linen were included on board the craft. Breakfast was a choice of continental, American or vegetarian breakfast every morning. It also claimed to have a swimming pool [is that Portland's harbour] and a sauna [with 500 people on board it would hardly need heating]. For £93 a BBC journalist was able to book a double room on the barge for Monday night , but eveidently no money was actually taken. The Home Office confirmed it had not made the vessel available for public bookings. The floating hotel, intended to hold 500 men, remains empty while further tests are carried out on its water system. Only four days after ariving, all 39 remaining immigrants were removed on Friday and placed in alternative accommodation. Samples from the water system showed levels of Legionella bacteria, the Home Office said. This bacteria can cause a serious type of pneumonia (lung infection) called Legionnaires’ disease. -/- |
